The plants used here are suited for a Southwestern climate. Check your local nurseries, garden centers, and DIYnetwork.com for plants acclimated to your climate zone.- Elijah blue fescue (Festuca Cinerea 'Elijah Blue') (figure A), an ornamental plant named for its distinctive blue gray foliage. It is a great plant for borders or rock gardens but does prefer a well-drained soil.
- Lavender cotton (Santolina Chamaecyparissus) (figure B), a mounding plant with buttons of small yellow flowers in the summer. When crushed, it releases a pungent aroma.
- Bronze carpet stonecrop (Sedum Spurium 'Bronze Carpet') (figure C), a type of succulent that doesn't need a lot of water. It will cascade over the ground, and the color adds garden interest.
- Fox red curly sedge (Carex Buchananii) (figure D), a grass type of plant, whose fine leaves will add height and texture to the garden.
- Red yucca (Hesperaloe Parviflora) has green leaves with red edges. It adds both height and texture to the garden.
- Variegated New Zealand flax (Phormium Tenax 'Tiny Tiger') (figure E), a connector plant, used along the path and also in the archway beds.
With the transitional path completed, the garden areas now flow together as one beautifully bold space. Walking this path, either day or night, gives the feeling that you've just stepped into another land.
