Pea gravel is used as a surfacing material for the path (figure A). This is a popular and economical material, often used by the French when creating borders. Not only is it a great surfacing material, it is also inexpensive, easy to install and easy to take out, if necessary. It can be cleaned very easily with a garden hose and is generally thought of by landscapers and designers as a very adaptable material. It is available in a range of colors from off white to brown, and can be found in both rough and smooth textures. Sizes range from 1/4" to 1" in diameter. One ton of pea gravel will cover 100 square feet of surface, 2" deep.
