    Figure A
A tropical paradise surrounds the putting green. Lush plantings with vibrant color nestle among the rocks, creating a visual feast for the eyes. To ensure proper plant placement prior to installation, spot the plants around the putting green perimeter in their pots (figure A). Once the design is in place, then you can begin planting. When choosing plants for the garden, make sure everything doesn't bloom at once. The plants used in this landscape are designed for a southern climate. Check your local nurseries, garden centers and the DIYnet.com website for plants that are compatible with your temperature zone.

The plants used for this garden include the following:

    • Periwinkle blue lobelia (Lobelia Hybrida) (figure B) is used to cascade over the smaller rocks.

    • Ponytail fern (Asparagus Densiflorus 'Meyers') (figure C) is planted behind the lobelia for wonderful color and foliage contrast.

    • Red-leafed banana (Ensete Ventricosum 'Maurelii') (figure D), planted for its unusual color, also gives height, is fast growing and loves full sun.

    • Sago palm (Cycas Revoluta) (figure E), considered to be a primitive type of conifer, is slow growing and very hearty and likes full sun.

    • Tropicanna canna (Canna Indica 'Phasion' PP#10569), throats speckled with orange and red, helps other colors pop in the landscape.

    • Purple queen bougainvillea (Bougainvillea 'Moneth') (figure F).

    • Miniature gardenia (Gardenia Jasminoides 'Radicans'), a low-growing, very fragrant plant that will cascade over the rocks.

    • Bird of paradise (Strelitzia Reginae) (figure G) stays small and produces a white flower in shades of blue and white that resembles a bird's beak.

    • Midnight blue agapanthus (Agapanthus X 'Momid') (figure H)

    • Dwarf lily of the nile (Agapanthus Africanus 'Peter Pan') (figure I), smaller foliage than midnight blue agapanthus and blooms later also, creating a continual bloom cycle.

    • Crown of Bohemia hibiscus (Hibiscus Rosa-Sinensus 'Crown of Bohemia' ).

    • Razzleberry fringe flower (Loropetalum Chinense rubrum 'Monraz').

With your gardens complete, it's time to pick up your clubs and enjoy an afternoon in paradise.
