Water from the garden hose is fine for the plants in your yard, but indoor plants need a little specialized care. - Use only tepid water on houseplants. Water that's too cold can send them into shock, and water that's too hot can burn the roots.
- Water at the base of the plant, and really douse the soil. The water should drain out in a few minutes; if it doesn't, the soil could be packed too tightly.
- Some plants such as carnivorous varieties can tolerate only distilled water: the chemicals in tap water are too much for these plants. To distill your own, fill the watering can and let it sit for several hours to give the impurities time to evaporate.
- Be careful not to overwater plants. Too much water kills more plants than too little.
