    Watering

Cymbidiums require watering year-round. Plants left to dry out for long periods may survive but will not flower well in the following year or two. They prefer to be kept on the moist side, but not left in standing water. Try to water the plants early in the day so that the foliage will be dry by nightfall.

    Fertilizing

To remain healthy and produce blooms, Cymbidiums must be fertilized on a regular basis. If the potting media is dry, pre-water the plant before applying the fertilizer.

    Pests

Like most cultivated plants, orchids are prone to attack by various pests and diseases. Common pests include: aphids, scale and spider mites. Various commercial remedies are available from your nursery or garden center.

    Location

The perfect environment for Cymbidiums would be a warm, airy and bright spot, preferably somewhere off the ground. They thrive best in a protected location away from direct hot sun, heavy winds and frost.

Bring flowering plants under cover to maximize the flower life, but don't forget to water the plant more often when the plant is in bloom. Plants with flowers use up far more water than the plant would normally use.
