Lady slipper orchids grown in Jerry's greenhouse

Orchid grower Jerry Fischer learns much about the cultivation of orchids by observing them in their natural settings. Lady slippers, for example, are bog plants.

By adjusting his greenhouse conditions to approximate the conditions favored by a plant in nature, Jerry can propagate and cultivate more successfully. In the wild, he takes note when plants are in the process of being pollinated and marks his calendar. Pollinating in the greenhouse too early or too late will result in failure to produce seed. He also checks the pH of the water surrounding a plant in the wild so he can adjust conditions accordingly for his own plants.
