Buddy Jarrard has a passion for daffodils. His magnificent collection was started by his aunt, Berma Abercrombie, in Roscoe, Georgia. Berma began gardening for relaxation in 1948 on her doctor's orders. The collection includes varieties from all over the world. Berma's garden began with chrysanthemums and iris, then daylilies for summer color. Once she became a serious gardener, she began to add daffodils, amassing a collection of more than 350 varieties, all labeled. She exhibited her flowers all over the country, eventually becoming a show judge. The secret to growing good daffodils is good soil, and the proper time to fertilize is fall. Mark clumps of bulbs with stakes or golf tees so you'll be able to fertilize the proper spot when the foliage has disappeared.
