Meet Monique Tibby. She's one of the many homeowners whose landscape was left in shambles when a string of hurricanes pummeled Florida. She lost several plants and some trees she had planted in honor of her grandchildren. Now, she needs the help of Walter Reeves and the DIY Garden Sense team to clean up the mess and plant a new landscape that may be more storm resistant.

    Required Project Timeline

The Florida landscape project took one day to complete.

    Project Details

Despite all the sun in Florida, the Garden Sense team's plan for Monique's garden is focused on the shade. Host Walter Reeves planted trees that get plenty of sun and lots of sensible selections that will thrive in the shade.

After clearing the area, the team extended the planting beds and got rid of a lot of struggling turf in the process. Then they added two Hibiscus to frame up the new plantings.

Next they chose a variety of tropical plantings, including Duranta and Ruellia. Monique's grandkids helped to plant two trees to replace the ones destroyed in the hurricanes.

Finally, lots of stone and pavers were added.
