    Dollars and Sense

    We used 10 plants in Hardiness Zone 6.

    The most expensive plants were the Crimson King Maple at $200, the four Summer Snowflake Viburnum at $180 and the birdbath at $125.

    The least expensive plants were the Liriope at $5 each.

    Plant prices may vary by zone.

    Not so Sensible Selections

    Plants to avoid in a landscape where there is a lot of shade are ornamental grasses that need a lot of sun like Micanthus or Panecidum.

    Another selection that would not be sensible in this landscape is a Viburnum that is too tall, such as the Viburnum Dentatum. It grows to 8-10 feet tall and wouldn't look in scale with the tree that is right beside it.
