Building the Pathway and Planting BedsTo add a little privacy to the new tiled patio and to dress up the entertaining area, the Murphys and their friends build a pathway and add some planting beds.
Materials
18 (24"x24") paver stones
80 linear feet landscape edging
9.5 tons path chip stonePlants
20 English lavender
14 boxwood
4 compact Japanese holly
4 Adams yew
3 river birch
2 spiral juniper The crew marks out the area for the path with landscape marking paint and removes the existing sod using a sod cutter (figure A). They plant trees along the pathway to add privacy (figure B) and plant bushes in the planting beds. Then they install edging around the pathway and spread chip stone gravel inside the edged area (figure C). Paver stones are placed on top of the gravel (figure D). The pathway and beds expand the small patio area and create a inviting area for entertaining.
