    Raising the Shade Sail

    The Murphys' new tile patio has some shade with the deck overhead, but they want to extend the shelter with a shade sail.

    Before digging the post holes, the crew gets all the utilities marked. Then they dig two holes for the galvanized posts.

    Next, Hill drills two holes through the top of the galvanized posts for the eye-bolts (figure A) and secures the eye-bolts to the posts. Eye-bolts are also secured to the side of the house where the shade sails will connect. After placing the posts into the ground, quick-setting concrete mix is poured into the holes and water is added.

    After the concrete has set, the crew attaches the shade sail to the posts (figure B). The completed shade sail provides additional protection from the sun for the stone pathway and expanded entertaining area (figure C).
