Using a sledgehammer and a lot of elbow grease, Jackie Taylor leads the crew in removing an unwanted cinderblock wall from the veranda beneath the deck (figure A). They also clear an area for a flowerbed, plant some cheery daylilies and spread a layer of mulch (figure B). The lower veranda is much more attractive and functional.
