Q: Each year there are small off-shoots that grow up in my flower bed from a nearby tree. How do I get rid of them?

A: Simply put, you've got to cut them out at the root.

Q: I want my garden to be fragrant. Aside from my roses, what else can I plant to achieve this?

A: You have lots and lots of choices. Herbs such as lavender, mint, rosemary or thyme...flowers like carnations or chocolate cosmos and even shrubs like gardenia, jasmine and lilac. Oh, don't forget honeysuckle!

Q: What plants are good for attracting birds to my garden?

A: Marigolds, purple verbena, flox, coneflower ... and add a couple of birdfeeders.
