With the basic plants in place, begin planting a number of grasses and blooming plants that will add color and texture to your garden, such as the following: - Ixia corms (African corn lily), which are seeded throughout the garden
- Dwarf maiden grass (Miscanthus Sinesis 'Yakushima') (figure A), which has a rapid growth response to rain. Leave ample space between plantings for other varieties of plants
- Gazania (Gazania rigens) (figure B), the clumping, not the trailing, variety
- African daisy (Osteospermum), purple and white blooms, planted in drifts across the center of the garden
- Bird of Paradise (Strelitzia nicolai ) (figure C), known for its bright blooms and large leaves
- Cape Rush (Chondropetalum tectorum), planted as a border at the back of the watering hole.
Mulch with coarse sand, if desired, to complete the planting landscape. Then add a few functional and decorative accents to complete the garden and allow the space to be enjoyed both day and night.
