Craft demonstrator Kathy Lamancusa of Visual Design Concepts decorates a grapevine wreath with moss, eucalyptus and synthetic flowers. Materials: Grapevine wreath Spanish moss Eucalyptus Synthetic flowers 2" ribbon Cloth-covered wire Raffia Wire cutters Crafter's Cement - Tuck pieces of Spanish moss between the vines along the right half of the wreath. It's not necessary to glue them.
- Along the left half of the wreath, glue stems of eucalyptus in a crescent shape, with the stems originating in the center of the crescent and pointing upward and downward. Follow the curve of the wreath when placing the eucalyptus, and use several stems above and below the center point (figure A). Secure the stems with Crafter's Cement by applying a generous amount to the end of each stem and pushing it between the vines of the wreath. Hot glue is not recommended.
- Cut synthetic flowers apart into individual stems. Open the flowers at the bottom of the stem, and leave some buds closed near the top of the stem. Apply Crafter's Cement to the ends of the stems, and glue a few into the eucalyptus (figure B).
- Make a bow for the wreath. Hold the ribbon between the thumb and first finger, and make a loop to the right. Make the size proportionate to the wreath. If the ribbon has a right and a wrong side, twist the ribbon so the right side faces out. Make a loop to the left. Make four loops to the right and four to the left. Wrap a piece of cloth-covered floral wire around the center of the loops, and twist to tighten. Tie the bow in the center of the eucalyptus crescent with the wire (figure C).
- Cut several strands of raffia, and loop them around, securing one end by wrapping with cloth-covered wire. Glue the raffia to the center of the bow.
- If desired, glue clusters of synthetic apples or fruit around the wreath.
Tips: - Floral arrangers prefer using an odd number of floral stems in an arrangement.
- Let Crafter's Cement dry at least 6 hours -- preferably overnight -- before hanging the wreath.
