Even kumquats and asparagus can be used to decorate a vase made from a box!

    Materials:

Oatmeal boxes or other cylindrical containers such as mailing tubes
Glass or plastic jars to place inside oatmeal boxes
3 sheets handmade paper, purchased from an art store
Glue gun (may substitute tape gun with double-sided tape)
Optional: raffia, ribbons, cording and unusual buttons or coins
    Flowers

    1. Cut paper to fit outsides of cylinders, with a 1" overlap.

    2. Glue (or tape) paper onto cylinders (figure A).

    3. Place glass jars inside and fill with water.

    4. Tie raffia or ribbon around cylinders, if desired -- or use a wax melting crayon stamp to personalize your box vases (figure B).

    5. Arrange flowers in cylinders.

Tip: Here are some other ideas for alternative containers:

    • Asparagus wrapped around a container, which is then filled with spring flowers
    • Bamboo affixed to a container with tiny crabapples on top of each spear
    • Moss-and-fresh-lemon basket with tulips.

Products: Available at craft, art or discount stores nationwide.
