    Tips:

    • Polaroid cameras provide an easy way to remember the way something looked before disassembly.

    • The heat generated in pipe soldering can damage valves. If possible, disassemble the valves before soldering to protect delicate seals.

    • A long-handled butane lighter makes an excellent striker for propane torches. It's also great for lighting pilot lights and gas grills and will continue to work long after the butane is gone.

    • To place a tile around a pipe, first score and snap it in half, then nip away the opening and place the two halves around the pipe.

    • Never use a colored cleaning agent on unglazed tile. The porous surface could be easily stained.

    • When working with large amounts of grout or mortar, be prepared. Line up all of the water you will need in several 5-gallon buckets and open all of the dry-mix packages you'll need before you begin.
