To make a metal toolbox less noisy, lay a piece of carpet in the bottom (figure A).

Carpet remnants can help you move objects on a hardwood floor without creating scratches. Place a remnant fiber-side down under the object (figure B), and slide the carpet over the floor.

Protect your car doors by wrapping carpet remnants around steel support posts in your garage.

For added ladder safety, cut a piece of carpet to the size of the bottom rung of the ladder. Clean the rung, then spray adhesive onto the rung and the back of the carpet. Allow the adhesive to become tacky, and press it into place (figure C). You can use the carpet to wipe your feet when you're working in muddy or damp areas.

If you're using a ladder indoors, attach indoor/outdoor carpet pieces to the bottoms of the ladder feet (figure D) to prevent scuffing your floors.

If you build or repair furniture, staple a piece of carpet to the tops of your sawhorses (figure E) to prevent scratches and gouges.

Give your pets a treat by building a scratching post for your cat or carpeting the doghouse. You can also use remnants to carpet a children's playhouse or treehouse.
