    Electrical and Carpentry

    Tips:

    • Circuit breakers and fuses are designed to protect wires from overheating and causing fires in your home. They are NOT designed to protect you from electric shock. For shock protection, you must use Ground Fault Circuit Interruptors (GFCI).

    • Question: A new day dawned for dark spaces when the pull-chain electric socket was invented in:

      a. 1806
      b. 1896
      c. 1912
      d. 1947

Answer: B. The first electric pull-chain socket was patented on August 11, 1896, by Harvey Hubbell of Bridgeport, Connecticut.

    • Make a map of your house including all of the electrical outlets and appliances. Turn on everything in your house, and as you cycle through the circuits, label the outlets each one controls on the map. Affix the map to the inside of your circuit box door and you'll easily find what you're looking for.

    • Marking the distance from your blade to the edge of your soleplate for quick reference will speed up your setup time when using a fence.

    • Whenever you use a miter saw, hold the work firmly against the vertical back, or fence, to keep the blade from seizing in the wood and causing serious injury.

    • Put that windmill imitation to good use. If you spin wood glue at end of your arm, the centrifugal force will cause the glue inside to move to the tip.
