    Tips:

    • To strip house wire, grab the black and white wires separately, twist to break the insulation, and pull the wires apart to the length you require.

    • Use a figure 8 motion when you're winding extension cords and they'll unwind without tangles.

    • Ethernet, cable and telephone lines should be installed no closer than two feet of the nearest electrical outlet and any necessary crossing of lines should occur at 90 degrees to minimize interference.

    • If your garage door has a single spring mounted directly above the door, it has a torsion spring system and should only be serviced by a professional.

    • Translucent window coverings let light in, but shield your belongings from prying eyes. Trim the material to fit your window before removing the backing. Apply from the center, and smooth out bubbles with a straight edge or cloth.

    • Clean and lubricate your garage door opener's chain at least twice a year with light penetrating oil.
