    Topics covered on today's episode:

Repairing an element on an electric water heater

    Powering a ceiling fan

Dealing with old wiring in a house

    Wiring a three-way light switch

Running continuous power to an outlet that is currently controlled by a switch

Repairing a garage door that closes unevenly

    Painting fiberglass garage doors

Installing the brace for a garage door opener

Filling gap when garage door is closed

    Solving automatic garage-door problems

    Removing paint from brass hardware

Using a sprayer to paint a basement room

    Tips

    • Removing a broken light bulb shouldn't burn you out: use a raw potato to twist it free.

    • Rocker, or seesaw-type, switches are large enough to be switched on with your elbow. They're great for any room you're likely to enter with your hands full.

    • A significant amount of heat can escape from a home that has an attached garage but no insulation between the house and the garage. Because of this, an insulated and weatherstripped garage door can save you money, even if the garage is unheated.
