    Materials:
    Drill, with drill bits
    Standard socket set
    1/2" open wrench
    Flat-head screwdriver
    Measuring tape
    Garage door opener kit
    Safety glasses

    1. Locate the center of the door, and mark it near the top.

    2. Raise the door to its highest point of travel (figure A), and measure down to the floor. Add 2" to that measurement, and mark the garage-door header at that height (figure B).

    3. Attach the rail bracket to the header at the mark (figure C).

    4. Assemble the rail that extends from the power unit to the door, according to the manufacturer's instructions. Attach the pulley to the front of the rail assembly. Then attach the rear of the rail to the power unit (figure D).

    5. Attach the rail to the header bracket (figure E).

    6. Rest the power unit on a ladder until you can secure it to the ceiling later (figure F).

    7. Open the garage door, and place a board or brick on the face of the door to raise the rail until it's high enough to clear the door (figure G). The rail doesn't have to be perfectly level, but it must clear the door easily.

    8. Center the rail, using the mark you placed on the door earlier (figure H).

    9. Determine the location of the ceiling joists, and attach an anchor board to the joists with long wood screws (figure I).

    10. Secure the power unit from the anchor board, using corner brackets (figure J).

    11. Close the door, and position the center bracket near the top center of the door based on your mark. Mark holes for drilling, and drill completely through the door (figure K).

    12. Push carriage bolts through the door from the outside (figure L). Bolt the bracket to the door.

    13. Attach the rail carriage to the rail. Attach the straight arm to the rail carriage (figure M) and the bent arm to the door bracket. Secure the arms with cotter pins (figure N).

    14. Attach the bent and straight arms to each other (figure O). You may need to adjust the carriage back and forth to align the arms properly.

    15. Attach the top and bottom stops to the rail (figure P). These stops will turn off the motor when the door reaches its highest and lowest positions.

    16. Attach the photo sensors to the doorframe (figure Q). These will prevent the door from closing if any obstructions are in the doorway.

    17. Extend the wire from the photo sensors up the frame of the doorway, and clip them in place with cable clips or staples (figure R).

    18. Attach the wires to the appropriate terminals on the power unit (figure S). Make sure the unit is unplugged before you begin attaching wires.

    19. Place the wall switch in a convenient place, but make sure that it's at least 5' off the floor to prevent small children from playing with it.
