    Tips:

    • Try polishing out minor glass scratches with a soft cotton cloth and brass cleaner.

    • A window bolt is an easy and inexpensive way to secure double hung windows.

    • A moist band-aid can sometimes raise small dents in a wooden window sash.

    • Reverse the disk of a drill-powered sander and you'll be able to trim the bottom of a door without removing it. Be sure to protect the floor from scratches with a piece of cardboard.

    • A hinge placed in an appropriate length 2 x 4 will allow you to choose between fully locked and partially opened sliding door protection.

    • Lock your doors -- many insurance companies will not cover your losses unless there is evidence of forced entry.
