    Doors and Windows

    Tips:

    • Door safety chains are not very effective, install peepholes instead. And never open the door for anyone who knocks if you can't see him or her clearly through the peephole.

    • When you're replacing a door, hang on to those old hinge pins. Put them to use as a punch when you have to hammer in a difficult spot.

    • Hollow core doors only have a minimal support at the bottom edge. Next time you need to shorten a door past this support, clamp stiff boards to the sides of the door and fill the bottom with expanding foam. Trim the excess foam after it dries and your ready to hang.

    • The first venetian blinds in the U.S. were installed in a:

      a. barbershop in Kentucky
      b. private detective's office in Chicago
      c. church in Philadelphia
      d. beach house in Miami

Answer: C. The first venetian blinds in the U.S. were installed in 1761 in St. Peter's Church in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.

    • Most steel door manufacturers do not warranty their doors against thermal bow if the door is painted a dark color.

    • Don't help burglars gain entry through a window by carelessly leaving break-in tools outside.
