Concrete is one of the strongest substances known to man, but it can deteriorate. Fortunately, with the right tools, you can patch, mend or even rebuild concrete. Before mending concrete, clean it with a spray cleaner and a steel brush to remove oil and debris (figure A). When fixing a chip in concrete, use a trowel to apply quick-setting cement to reshape the broken edge (figure B). Before filling in a hole on concrete, remove any debris from the hole. Spray the hole with water (figure C). Use a steel trowel to spread vinyl patching compound inside the hole and around the surface surrounding the hole (figure D). Continue spreading until the entire surface is level. To fill in cracks on concrete, squeeze concrete filler into the crack as you would squeeze a tube of glue (figure E). The filler will work its way into the crack. Use a trowel to smooth the surface.
