If you're getting ready to sell your home or just want it to look its best, here are some suggestions for enhancing its curb appeal.

Plant colorful flowers along the walkway leading to the door (figure A). Keep bushes trimmed (figure B), and add fresh mulch around trees and shrubbery (figure C).

Potted plants (figure D) can add a nice touch to the front door.

Make sure the trim around your windows and doors is in good shape (figure E ). If the paint is peeling or cracking, scrape it off and apply fresh paint.

Sweep walkways frequently, and keep your windows clean. It's also a good idea to polish the front-door handle. Remember: The front door is one of the first things guests see when they come to visit.

A welcome mat is helpful so guests can wipe their feet before entering the house. Choose one with a color that coordinates well with your door.

Display the street number of your house to help guests find it easily. One creative way of displaying the address is to post decorative numbers in your flower bed (figure F).
