    Tips:

    • Before you paint your home's exterior, make sure to caulk around outdoor electrical boxes, water faucets and exterior lights for weather protection and professional results.

    • Did you know? Walls facing south often receive twice the sun and weathering of a north-facing wall. As a result, they may require twice the maintenance.

    • You can strip old window and door hardware by dropping them in a pan filled with roughly 4 tablespoons of baking soda per quart of cold water. Set the pan over low heat and simmer for 20 minutes. When cool remove the hardware and scrub off any remaining particles with steel wool.

    • Keep your concrete walks and driveways looking their best with a good scrub. Use a stiff broom to brush nonpolluting detergent into a wet concrete surface, then rinse thoroughly until the water runs clear.

    • Did you know? Concrete is purchased by the yard. A 6-inch deep driveway should yield 54 square feet per yard of mix, while a 4-inch deep sidewalk will yield 81 square feet from the same yard.

    • Did you know? The ancient Romans revolutionized masonry work when they mixed volcanic ash with water, lime and stone fragments, thereby inventing concrete.
