    Tips:

    • Did you know? The Mesopotamians were the first to intentionally use the sun to bake bricks. They erected an arch of sun-baked bricks in the city of Ur around 4000 BC.

    • How many common bricks are found on a palate?

      A. 252
      B. 386
      C. 516
      D. 612

Answer: C. There are 516 bricks in a standard palate, enough to cover about 115 square feet of patio. The same palate of split bricks, or pavers, will cover 200 square feet.

    • In construction, concrete block walls are often used for their strength and low cost as well as their ability to provide passive fire protection by containing fire without emitting toxic gasses or smoke.

    • Anytime your straight edge isn't long enough, try using a chalk line instead.

    • To make quick work of marking large sheet materials, learn to pinch your tape measure between your thumb and first finger and slide along the board with a pencil at the edge of the tape.

    • Foam pipe insulation will provide easy to carry protection for your luggage rack when transporting building materials.
