A billiard storage rack is perfect for holding pool cues, and drinks (figure A).

    • Pine wood will make a sturdy cue rack, just cut to size and mark hole placements for the cue sticks and cups.

    • A saw bit can be used to cut the holes needed for the cues and cup holders (figure B). Just be sure to use the right size bit for each type of hole.

    • To keep your cups in place, a scant board will need to be attached underneath, creating a bottom for your cup holders (figure C).

    • Pre-made furniture legs screwed into the corners connect the top and bottom (figure D).

    • Bun feet on the bottom add a finished touch and so will decorative trim on the edges (figure E).

    • A green-friendly, water-based stain and a clear topcoat will create a nice finish.

    • Add liners cut from cork sheets to protect the cup holders from moisture

    • Now your ready for a great game of billiards.

Directions for Making a Cue Rack
    1. Cut two - 12" x 3' boards, one for top and other for bottom.
    2. Mark the bottom of the top board for 1-1/2 inch cue stick holes and the 3-1/4 inch cup-holder holes. Use a carpenter’s square. Position cue holes evenly and random cup holes.
    3. Clamp the top board bottom side up, so the markings will show and drill the 1-1/2 inch holes with a 1-1/4 inch arbored hole saw bit and electric drill. Drill the 3-1/4 inch holes for the cup holders with a 3-1/4 inch arbored hole saw bit. Start drilling from the bottom with the arbored bit and drill half the way through the board or until you see the drill bit come through the topside. Then flip the board, clamp and drill the remainder from the reverse side (top). This achieves a clean cut edge.
    4. Place the drilled top board on top of the bottom board and trace the cue holes to the bottom board.
    5. Repeat step 3 for the bottom board which creates holes for the cue stick ends.
    6. Sand the entire piece.
    7. Place 1/4" scant boards underneath the top board covering the cup-holder area. Screw in place. This creates a bottom for the cups to rest on.
    8. Place 1/4" scant boards underneath the bottom board covering the cue stick holes. Screw in place. This creates a bottom for the cues sticks to rest.
    9. Screw straight top plates (leg brackets) under the top board in the four corners.
    10. Pre-drill a pilot hole into bottom leg. Screw top legs into straight top plates then screw on the bottom legs.
    11. Screw in straight top plates on the four corners of the bottom for the bun feet. Screw in the bun feet.
    12. Add trim pieces
    13. Use a water-based stain and polyurethane all in one. (For this project, a golden oak was used.)
    14. Use one of the 3-1/4 inch drilled-out circles as a template to trace and cut cork inserts for the drink holders.
