Creating a shelter (figure A) for your pet is easier and less expensive than you might think.

    • A base frame (figure B) can be constructed with pressure treated two by sixes and plywood, but choose products that are not treated with arsenic based chemicals. They may be harmful to your pet.

    • The side walls are then nailed into place up through this base frame.

    • Placing the center stud of the back wall a few inches off-center will make nailing the ridge board needed for the roof easier.

    • To leave room for the entrance, there is no center stud for the front.

    • Cutting the ridge board to allow for an overhang will help keep the walls of the doghouse dry when it rains.

    • The rafters of the roof should be cut at 45 degree angles and cutting notches in them allows the boards to fit snuggly on the wall frames.

    • Weather proof your project with asphalt shingles (figure C) and welcome your pet to its new home.
