It’s easy to turn a traditional closet into a great place to sew (figure A)!

    • Create a clean slate in the closet with a fresh coat of paint.

    • Custom shelves and storage can maximize the space.

    • Velcro two portable storage units together, adding casters for easy access.

    • Try lining drawers with felt (figure B) so tools won't move around.

    • Recycling egg containers so small items say in place.

    • For your sewing area, consider how much room you have and then tuck in what works, such as a desk, folding table or sewing cabinet.

    • A folding chair is also easy to store.

    • Make the most of your closet, tacking patterns and swatches to a memory board (figure C).

    • Nail a ribbon to wall studs for an easy way to keep rolls of fabric in place (figure D) and hang an iron and board for finishing work.

Now your sewing closet is there when you need it, out of sight when you don’t.
