The next time you have house guests, make them feel like they’re staying at a first class bed and breakfast.

    • When it comes to sleeping, high thread count sheets are a welcoming touch and keep linens fresh with a little fabric refresher.

    • On the night stand, place a flash light, a carafe and fresh flowers (Figure A).

    • In the closet, make sure guests have room to hang clothes and if space is limited add a luggage rack (Figure B).

    • For guests on the go, make a list of places to explore and mark them on a map (Figure C). Place both in a basket along with brochures, an entertainment guide and a set of house keys.

    • An assortment of magazines, books and the local paper are a nice touch.

    • For movie lovers, include a TV and DVD player along with some of your favorite movies.

    • Of course, nothing makes guests feel more special than a small gift and welcome note, or nightly turn down service complete with chocolates.

    Web Extras

    • Create a list of helpful details about your home. Include notes about where to find extra supplies and toiletries, and instructions for television and stereo equipment and other household systems.

    • In case house guests get the nibbles in the evening, place wrapped snacks, fresh fruit or cookies in the room.

    • If your guests will be touring around town without you, they’ll appreciate area maps, brochures on the hot spots and directions to your home.

    • A TV in the guest room would be much appreciated. Add a DVD or CD player and some of your favorite movies. Don’t forget to place the remote control near the bed so they don’t have to get out of bed to turn them off.

    • Place extra blankets in the closet for chilly nights.

    • Provide a luggage rack or bench where guests can set down their suitcase. This will keep guest from stooping down to pull out items from the suitcase and prevent them from placing their dirty luggage on a clean bed.

    • As a personal touch, place a framed picture of you and your guest in their room.
