Today’s busy lifestyles can leave your car in a bit of a mess. Here are some ways to clean it up and keep it that way.

    • Start with a clean slate, do a quick de-clutter (figure A) then apply trash management where you need it the most.

    • For crumbs and dirt, a portable vacuum works great to clean up messes before they become stains.

    • Keep wipes handy so when spills happen you can clean them right up (figure B).

    • To help prevent future stains, use a spray on fabric protector.

    • When it comes to cleaning windows, make streaks a thing of the past. Try wiping the inside in one direction and the outside in another. If there’s a streak, you’ll be able to tell which side it’s on.

    • Cleaning is also a great time to organize. Consider stashing items in crates or bags to keep them off the floor and in the trunk. This will also make it easier to transport items from one place to another and remove gear once you get to where you’re going (figure C).

    • Shake out floor mats to remove dirt, gravel, etc.

    • Try using a scrub brush and carpet cleaner to remove stains on the floor mats.

    • Use a glass cleaner and paper towels to clean windows. Newspapers can also be used in place of paper towels.

    • Use a leather cleaner designed for automobiles to clean and protect leather seats.

    • Spritz the interior of the car with a fabric freshener to remove odors.

    • You can also buy an air freshener and hang it inside the car to keep it smelling nice.
