Looking for more color in you life? Open up to the rich shades of paint.

    • Before you commit, get a small size so you can try out the color first.

    • Once you’ve decided on the color, go for good quality paint and tools.

    • To deliver true colors in fewer coats consider using shaded primers to help lessen the number of topcoats needed.

    • Low-tack painter’s tape works great to protect surfaces and it gives crisp even lines around walls and ceilings (figure A).

    • Painter’s tape also works well to remove stray fibers from new rollers (figure B).

    • Boxing or mixing all of the paint cans together before you start painting ensures consistent color throughout the room.

    • Since pigment can settle, occasionally stir the paint from the bottom up (figure C).

    • "Cut in" edges with a brush and follow with a roller, working in small areas so you’re always working with a wet edge. Apply at least two coats (figure D).

The new darker color will add richness and a whole new feel to the room!

    • Does your ceiling need a fresh coat? Paint it first, before your walls.

    • Try the color in the room under different lighting conditions.

    • Only back brush one time when painting with dark colors and keep a wet edge.

    • Remove any tape before the paint dries to avoid ripping off the paint.

    • Dark paint can contain 12-16 oz. of pigment per gallon as compared with a few drops for a pastel paint
