One of your car's most important safety features is its windshield wipers (figure A). Keep them in good working order by cleaning and inspecting the blades regularly (figure B). - Top off the reservoir (figure C) and use a water repellant to improve visibility.
- Even with the best of care dirt, grime and the sun's UV rays will break down the soft rubber edge.
- Plan on replacing your wiper blades every spring and fall. You can save a few bucks by buying inserts, but the best and safest option is to purchase whole blades.
- Check your owner's manual to determine the size and connection you need. Follow the manufacturer's instructions for replacing your particular model (figure D).
- Don't wait to take care of your windshield wipers. The worst time to realize they need replacing is when it's raining.
