Whether you're building a new home or remodeling, consider the lasting beauty of fiberglass doors (figure A).

    • They won't rot, warp or splinter like wood, or rust and dent like steel.

    • These exterior fiberglass doors have an energy efficient foam core (figure B) and composite stiles and rails to protect against moisture.

Note: Be sure the foam core is made from environmentally safe CFC-free foam and check the foam's "R" factor. The higher the "R" factor, the better the insulation.

    • You can choose a smooth skin surface if you plan to paint your door, or a wood grain surface if you want to apply a stain.

    • Many styles come with glass inserts to brighten your entryway and are available with double-paned low E-2 glass for superior energy efficiency.

Note: Low E-2, or low emission, glass allows heat and sunlight to pass through the window but it blocks the heat from leaving your home.

    • There are a variety of architectural styles to choose from so there's bound to be one that fits your home's décor (figure C).

Many people are surprised to learn what looks like a traditional wood door is actually fiberglass.
