To reface or replace? That is often the question when it comes to changing kitchen cabinetry.

    • If choosing to replace your cabinets, be sure to shop around. Most home centers have computerized planning software to create various options (figure A).

Note: Programs also tally up costs to keep you on a budget.

    • You can purchase stock cabinets (figure B). Or, go with more expensive custom cabinets...combing finishes and giving you options for custom features-like a pullout spice rack.

    • Ornate moldings may also help define your new look.

    • There are great storage solutions like pullout drawers for pots and pans (figure C). Some offer a soft-close feature. A lazy susan maximizes corner space and flat drawers can create room for cookie sheets.

    • Another new trend is having two sinks complete with two faucets side by side (a his and hers option) (figure D).

Replacing outdated cabinets is a smart answer to the question of how to improve your kitchen's look.
