Your kitchen may be the most popular room in your home, but one that is showing its age will not win over many guests. Old wallpaper, weathered cabinets and worn light fixtures can make a kitchen feel dated. With a kitchen makeover, you can add to the overall beauty of your home and its resale value. - Limit major renovation work and focus more on cosmetic details which are less costly. Since wallpaper goes in and out of style, consider replacing the paper with a neutral paint color.
- Install new laminate countertops and a tile backsplash to brighten up the room (figure A).
- Add some sparkle by replacing your old, worn out sink with a new sink and faucet.
- Spruce up kitchen cabinets with new trim and a paint job...and replace old cabinet pulls with top-of-the-line hardware for a classy touch.
- Lighting can make or break a room. Splurge on a new overhead light...and an attention-grabbing chandelier over the eating area.
- Finally, accessorize with cheery plants and stylish canisters and cookware. Add more color and warmth with new table linens.
The cost of a kitchen makeover (figure B)? Painting materials - $350 Countertop - $650 Tile backsplash - $220 Cabinet hardware - $100 Sink and faucet - $300 Light fixtures - $160 Accessories - $1,020 Total: $2,800
