Old family photos Creating a heritage scrapbook is like bringing your family tree to life. So you may want to organize it according to a theme, such as military history, geography or family recipes. - Because your old photos are valuable and may be one of a kind, it's wise to make copies.
- Capture the shading and depth of black-and-white photos by copying them in sepia tone (figure A -- note that the sepia copy is on the left).
- If you're telling a geographic story, make copies of maps where your family immigrated from and where they are settled now.
- Make an interesting background by copying the map onto velum. Now, glue this onto your scrapbook page.
- Choose the best picture of your ancestor and trim if necessary. Glue the picture onto a gold rectangle, slightly larger than the picture. Then glue this to a slightly larger black rectangle and place it on your page (figure B).
- Title the page by writing your ancestor's name with a calligraphy pen or a rectangular banner.
- It may also be interesting to tell the story of a family tradition through pictures.
- Add one of the newest family members to tell the story of the next generation. Use copy balloons with handwritten notes for a personal touch. Then stick in place (figure C). You may want to add decorative embellishments to illustrate the page.
- Finally, add your family name to the cover using the calligraphy pen.
Your family memories scrapbook will be cherished for generations to come!
