Fashionable and flirty, this stylish and absorbent bib will keep your little fashion plate clean and dry.
Materials: 12" x 8" solid colored fabric 12" x 8" patterned fabric 15" x 12" chenille or minky fabric coordinating felt pieces Gerber Birdseye flat fold cloth diaper 10-1/2" satin or grosgrain ribbon snaps or Velcro matching thread contrasting embroidery floss paper pencil straight pins iron sewing machine
Steps:1. Print the bib pattern pieces and cut out (figure A). Tape sections 1 and 2 together to form pattern "A" and tape sections 3 and 4 together to form pattern "B" (figure B).
2. Pin bib pattern "A" print side down, to the wrong side of the solid colored fabric. Next, pin bib pattern "B" print side down, to the wrong side of the patterned fabric. Cut both out (figure C).
3. Pin both pieces of fabric ("A" and "B") together along the center seam, right sides facing in (figure D). Sew the two sides together with a 1/4-inch seam (figure E). Using the iron, press seam open on the wrong side of the bib.
4. Pin the ribbon along the center seam on the right side of the bib (figure F) and sew along both edges of the ribbon (figure G).
5. Fold the cloth diaper in half. Using the fabric portion of the bib as a pattern, place it on the folded cloth diaper, right side facing up, and pin. Then cut out (figure H).
6. Again, using the fabric portion of the bib as a pattern, lay it on the chenille, right sides facing together, pin and then cut out (figure I).
7. Sandwich the absorbent cloth diaper between the printed fabric bib and chenille and pin the three layers together. Sew all layers together 1/4-inch from the edge of the fabric, leaving a small opening to turn (figure J).
8. Turn the bib right side out (figure K) and press flat using the iron. Make sure to tuck in the open seam for a nice even edge.
9. Top-stitch around the edge of the bib using a zigzag or decorative stitch, ensuring that the opening is sewn shut (figure L).
10. To create the felt flower, cut three flower-shaped pieces (small, medium and large) from the felt (figure M). The felt flower layers can be all one color or, if you prefer, a combination of contrasting colors. Layer the felt flower pieces on top of one another, with the largest on the bottom and the smallest on top (figure N). Tip: Slightly turning each flower piece while layering allows all of the petals to be visible and helps to build a full flower.
11. Hand-stitch the flower to the front of bib with embroidery floss by stitching an X in the center of the flower using running stitches. Make sure that when stitching the flower to the bib, the needle only pierces the first two layers (patterned fabric and diaper) and does not go through the chenille, which will be next to baby's skin (figure O).
