    Heart Potpourri Favor

    Materials:

Small heart-shaped adhesive-backed frame with a round center hole
    Quilt batting
    Manicure scissors
Satin or brocade fabric for outside covering
12" square of tulle per favor
1/4 cup of potpourri per favor
    Low-temperature glue gun and glue
    Fabric glue
Small craft pearls on a string
    Thin ribbon
    Small ribbon roses
    Floral wire
    Wire-cutters
    Manicure scissors
    Rotary cutter and mat

    1. Separate the two halves of the heart frame. The top half has adhesive backing on both sides. The back half has adhesive backing on only one side.

    2. Working with the top half of the frame, remove one side of the protective paper, and place the frame, sticky side down, on top of the batting (figure A).

    3. Trim away the excess batting from around the outside edges of the frame and the inside hole, making small cuts with manicure scissors. Discard the excess batting.

    4. Place a small square of fabric wrong side up on the work surface. Lay the top of the frame, batting side down, on top of the fabric. Using a rotary cutter, cut the fabric around the outside of the frame, leaving 1/2" extra all around. Using manicure scissors, cut the fabric around the inside of the hole, leaving 1/2" extra fabric.

    5. Remove the protective paper from the back side of the top of the frame, and carefully turn the excess fabric back onto the sticky surface. Make small snips in the excess fabric from the edge toward the frame every 1/4" so the fabric will fit smoothly around the curves. This will provide a padded surface for the top of the frame (figure B).

    6. Still working with the top half of the frame, place the sticky back side onto the wrong side of another piece of fabric. Trim the fabric to fit the heart shape, even with the edges of the heart. If necessary, use fabric glue to hold the edges down since most of the sticky area on the edges is holding down the fabric pulled around from the front. The inside of the back of the frame is now covered.

    7. Glue pearls around the center hole and outside edge of the frame. It's very important to use a clear fabric glue that will not show when dry. Trim off any excess pearls. The padded front side of the frame is now complete.

    8. Cover the back of the heart frame with fabric only, no batting. There will be no center hole opening in the back.

    9. Form a loop with a small piece of thin ribbon, and hot-glue it to the back side of the front of the frame at the top center, between the two curves of the heart.

    10. Apply low-temperature glue to the top crests of the heart, and glue the back and front pieces of the frame together. This will create a hingelike effect with the heart opening at the bottom (figure C).

    11. Pour 1/4 cup of potpourri into the center of the tulle. Bring the corners together around the potpourri, twist the tulle, and tie with floral wire.

    12. Carefully open the heart, and slide the tufted ends of the bag of potpourri through the opening hole in the front of the frame.

    13. Tip the tufted ends backward, toward the top of the heart. Once you have the angle needed, place a touch of glue on the bottom of the potpourri bag and attach it to the fabric on the back of the heart. The potpourri will keep the heart from closing up.

    14. Tie thin ribbon around the potpourri bag to cover the wire tie. Additional pearls, ribbon roses or ribbon may be added (figure D).

    Heart-Shaped Ring-Bearer's Pillow

    Materials:

    Large heart-shaped adhesive-backed frame
    Quilt batting
Satin or brocade fabric for outside covering
    Low-temperature glue gun and glue
    Fabric glue
Small craft pearls on a string
    Wide flat lace ribbon
    Adhesive-backed ruffled lace
    Small ribbon roses
    Floral wire
    Wire cutters
    Scissors
    Rotary cutter and mat

    1. Follow directions 1 through 5 of the Heart Potpourri Favor instructions above to pad and cover the front of the frame and to cover the back of the frame.

    2. To make a handle, cut a piece of wide, flat ribbon 2" longer than the widest part of the heart. Place the ribbon on the outside of the back of the heart, and pull the ends of the ribbon to the inside of the back of the heart, leaving a little slack to slip your hand underneath. Glue the ends of the ribbon to the inside of the back of the heart.

    3. Take the circle of batting from the center of the front of the frame, and stick it to the adhesive backing on the inside of the back of the frame. Place a piece of lace fabric over the batting, and stick it to the adhesive backing on the inside of the back of the frame. This will form the padded lace mound on which the rings will be placed (figure E).

    4. Glue two ribbons to the inside of the hole in the center of the front of the frame; pull them through to the front. The ribbons will secure the rings. Set aside.

    5. Stick adhesive-backed lace around the outer edge on the inside of the back of the heart.

    6. Assemble the pillow by placing the front of the frame on top of the back, centering the hole over the padded lace mound. Join the two halves together by pressing the top onto the adhesive backing. Additional glue may be needed. Embellish with ribbon, pearls and flowers to match the color scheme of the wedding. You can place the rings on the padded center of the pillow and tie them with the ribbons for security (figure F).

    Wedding Guest Book

    Materials:

    Guest book
    Satin or brocade fabric
    Large heart-shaped frame
    Adhesive-backed ruffled ribbon
    Quilt batting
    Craft pearls on a string
    Silk roses
    Ribbon
Fabric embroidered with the word guests

    1. Remove the pages from the guest book.

    2. Open and place the guest book flat on the wrong side of the fabric. Cut the fabric large enough to leave 1" excess fabric all the way around the book.

    3. Apply fabric glue to each of the four corners on the inside of the cover. Pull the fabric around to the inside, and secure to each of the corners. Run a line of glue along the sides, top and bottom of the book on the inside of the cover, and glue the fabric down, covering the book (figure G).

    4. On the inside of the back cover, place adhesive-backed ruffled ribbon along the raw edges of the fabric to cover them. The ribbon will extend beyond the edges of the cover of the book to create a decorative border (figure H).

    5. Cut a piece of adhesive-backed ruffled ribbon the length of the front cover of the book from top to bottom, with a little extra to go around to the inside. Place it on the front of the book approximately 2" from the center, parallel with the rings of the book.

    6. Complete the placement of adhesive-backed ruffled ribbon around the inside front cover of the book as described in step 5.

    7. To decorate the front of the book, make a padded heart as described above, using a large heart-shaped frame. Decorate the edge of the heart with pearls. Slide a decorative piece of needlework embroidered with the word guests into the center of the heart. Embellish with additional pearls, ribbon and flowers, if desired, and replace the pages (figure I).
