Whimsical Window From "Embellish This!" episode DEMB-112

Host Dena Fishbein demonstrates a fun way to embellish a window shade.

Materials:

Roll-up window shade
Acrylic paints -- red and green
Black dry erase marker
Medium size #4 paintbrush
Red fabric
Flexible trim for the bottom edge
Scissors
Paper for template
Fabri-Tac
1 button
1 tassel
Needle and thread
Pencil

1. Unroll the window shade all the way.

2. Draw cherry clusters all over the shade with the black dry erase marker.

3. Paint the cherries (figure A) and let dry.

4. Cut a piece of paper the width of the shade.

5. Fold the piece of paper in half and draw a curve that comes to a point at the fold (figure B). Cut out the template.

6. Fold the template in half and the fabric in half and lay the template on the fabric matching the crease of the template with the crease of the fabric.

7. Cut out the fabric leaving an extra inch on both sides.

8. Glue the flexible trim onto the top edge of the decorative curved side using Fabri-Tac. Leave a little extra trim, and fold it and glue it to the backside so you will have nice smooth edges.

9. Sew the button onto the topside of the center point and catch the tassel on the backside (figure C).

10. Fold the bottom of the window shade back and add a thick layer of Fabri-Tac and then lay that down on the top of the fabric and press it on. Fold the side edges around the back of the shade and glue down.
