Turn a discarded window into one of today's hottest decorating accessories: a window mirror.
|
Nancy Golden, host of DIY's Decorating and Design, shows how to make a mirror from an old window frame.
Materials:
Window (try looking behind the antiques store -- or in the trash -- for this item) Heavy-duty work gloves Heavy towel or other cloth Hammer Needle-nose pliers Mirror tiles (have them cut to fit at a a glass store) Glazing caulk Two eye screws Picture-hanging wire Toggle bolts (optional) - Cover the window with a towel and, wearing gloves, smash the glass with a hammer from the front of the window.
- Turn the window over to the back side and pick out all the remaining glass and glazing.
- Use a pair of needle-nose pliers to scrape out any glass shards and to remove the glazing points, the small metal brads that held the glass in.
- Turn the mirror face down and drop in the mirror tiles, attaching each by applying a bead of glazing caulk.
- Attach eye screws and picture wire to the back for hanging, and hang either from screws driven into wall studs or from toggle bolts inserted in the wall.
