- Turn the right sides of the fabric together. Take a small amount of gel medium and spread along the outer edges of the bottom piece of fabric (figure E). Be sure to leave the areas across the top and along the very bottom of the pattern free of glue so that it remains accessible. Let the fabric dry before moving to the next step.
- Turn the fabric back to its right side and then slide the cutout figure into the top opening. With a threaded sewing needle sew the figure into the opening to secure it. Take the needle through both the fabric and the paper cutout.
Tip: It is easier to sew the figure if you make holes through the watercolor paper with a tack. - To make sure that the wooden ball/bead attaches to the end of the wooden dowel, use a pencil sharpener to sharpen the edge of the dowel (figure F).
- Use acrylic paint and paint the wooden dowel to match the funnel and the fabric.
Tip: Be sure to paint the dowel separately from the ball. - To secure the dowel to the bottom of the figure, tape the top of the dowel underneath the dress to the extra cardstock at the bottom.
- Slide the dowel in through the mouth (wide end) of the funnel. Now secure the end of the fabric dress to the mouth of the funnel using gel medium. A clothespin may be used to anchor the fabric in place while applying the gel medium around the bottom edges of the dress and to the mouth of the funnel (figure G).
- Finish up by adding additional embellishments like ribbons, buttons, or other materials.
Tip: Small circles of paper from a paper hole puncher make perfect sized buttons to add to a puppet's costume.

Finishing Touches to the Victorian Cone Puppet- Secure the painted wooden bead to the bottom of the painted dowel.
Tip: Applying a small amount of gel medium to the hole first provides extra hold. - Apply gel medium around the mouth of the funnel (where the fabric and funnel mouth are now connected). Now take the ball fringe and adhere. Use a clothespin to anchor fringe at the starting point and work the additional fringe completely around the mouth of the funnel. Trim away excess ball fringe length.
- Add any final design details or embellishments to the finished puppet (figure H).
