Craft demonstrator Kathy Lamancusa turns plain, inexpensive stuffed animals into well dressed treasures.

    Materials:

    Stuffed teddy bear
    Gathered lace
    Picot ribbon
    Ribbon roses
    Small bows
    Fused pearls
    Fabric glue
    Scissors
    Blue ribbon
    Red and white polka-dot ribbon
    Wire
    Charm
    Design Master® spray dye

    1. Start by putting a lace skirt on the teddy bear. Run a bead of fabric glue around the waist, and glue on a strip of gathered lace, with the opening at the back. Trim the lace. If you don't have gathered lace, run a basting stitch along one edge of the lace with a sewing machine, and pull to gather (figure A).

    2. Run a bead of fabric glue over the top of the gathered lace at the waist, and glue on a strip of ribbon for the waistband. Trim in back.

    3. Glue a piece of gathered lace around the neck (figure B).

    4. Glue fused pearls around the neck for a necklace. Fused pearls are made so that when the string between the pearls is cut, the pearls stay together (figure C).

    5. Glue ribbon roses on the head (figure D).

    6. To make a boy bear, glue cylinders of blue ribbon around each leg for pants. Glue a square of fabric to the chest to create the look of overalls (figure E). Glue a triangular piece of red and white polka-dot ribbon to the back of the neck to create a bandana. Glue another small triangular piece of ribbon on the back as a handkerchief in a back pocket (figure F).

    7. Spray Design Master spray dye on the bears' cheeks for blush.

    8. To create a large bow for the top of the head, make a loop with a piece of ribbon, pinch it together in the center, and wrap with a piece of wire. Wrap with strung pearls, and glue a small ribbon bow on top (figure G).
