    Setting the Table

    1. Move any chairs away from the serving table.

    2. If you are serving bread and cheese, preslice the bread so your guests don't have any work to do.

    3. Place the serving plates at one end of the table and drinking glasses at the other end so that guests can load up their plates without balancing a glass in one hand (figure A).

    4. To make a simple bunched flower arrangement, crisscross clear tape across the top of a vase and insert flowers into the grid the tape creates.

    Frayed-Edge Cocktail Napkins

    Materials:

    scrap linen or cotton
    sewing machine
    contrasting thread
    scissors

    1. Cut 7" squares from the fabric.

    2. Stitch 1/2" from edges of the squares.

    3. Pull a thread to fray each edge along the grain. Continue fraying until you reach the stitched line (figure B).
