    Light-Up Punch Bowl

    Project designed by Matt Maranian.

    Materials:

    ruler
    permanent felt marker
    handsaw
    electric drill
    1/4" and 3/8" drill bits
    medium grade sandpaper
    paintbrush
    10.8" diameter plastic painter's bucket
    12.8" x 271-1/2" masking material
    split bamboo
ceiling mount light socket set (two wire nuts and two 1/8 IP hex nuts)
    two 1/8 IP brass washers
    lamp cord set with plug
    electrical tape
    two 40-watt appliance bulbs
    large clear punch bowl
    contact cement

    1. Measure vertically from the bottom of the bucket, mark a point 4" from the bottom edge of the exterior about every 3" around the circumference.

    2. Using those marks as a guide, tape a straight cut line around the circumference of the bucket. Begin cutting with the handsaw (figure A).

    3. Using the 1/4" bit, drill a hole through the side of the bucket about 1" from the bottom edge. Using a 3/8" bit, drill another hole in the bottom center of the bucket.

    4. Sand the top edge of the bucket to smooth any roughness. Clean the shavings and dust off the bucket.

    5. Take masking material and spray paint it metallic gold (figure B).

    6. Add spray mount to the material and adhere it to the bucket (figure C).

    7. Take split bamboo and paint it green.

    8. After the bamboo has dried, apply contact cement to the bamboo and bucket (figure D). Let it completely dry before adhering it together.

    9. Secure the socket set into the bottom hole by screwing a hex locknut onto the threaded stem at the base set followed by a washer.

    10. Slip the stem through the center hole and secure it from the underside of the bucket with another washer and hex locknut.

    11. Pull the exposed end of the lamp cord into the bucket through the exterior side of the lamp cord hole.

    12. Attach the wires of the lamp cord to the wires coming from the socket.

    13. Attach the wire coming from the ribbed side of the cord to the black socket wire.

    14. Twist wire connections together and cover the end in electrical tape leaving joined wire exposed.

    15. Secure the connection by screwing a wire nut down over joined wire.

    16. Screw in light bulbs.
