An electrical insulator makes a striking fruit bowl for Rory Brown.
If you want to B. Original in the kitchen, don’t let a hectic schedule get in your way. In fact, using your creativity in the kitchen can keep you on the move and better fed.

Michele Beschen's brother Rory Brown is a major-league snacker, and he gave Michele and B. Original viewers a tour of his kitchen snack empire. The key: Finding fun and attractive ways to keep healthy snacks handy. That way, he can have the snacks he loves and feel good about it.

Scroll down for some of Rory's creative-snacker tips.

Presentation is almost as important for casual snacks as it is for fancy dinners. A fun, funky snack container makes anything inside more enjoyable—important if you're trying to focus on healthy snacks.

Look for old military chests, oversized electrical insulators, old-fashioned serving sets and other creative ways to store and present snacks. Rory Brown's own snack center—an Army surplus tool chest—has plenty of space for his energy bars, dried fruit and anything else a healthy guy on the go needs (figure A).

A breakfast center also can make it easier to stay on the move. Rory keeps his non-perishable breakfast items—bowls, cutlery, cereal, breads and other items—out on the counter to save time in the mornings. It's also handy when he has houseguests: Early risers don't have to wait for him to get up or deal with hunting down a bite to eat.

Another way Rory likes to B. Original is by changing up some of his favorite snacks. Instead of cereal bars made from puffed rice and marshmallows, for example, he tries to change up the recipe by adding different flavors and working with different cereals. A granola and dried fruit treat packs more nutritional punch than its puffed rice counterpart, and it's much cheaper than store-bought granola bars. He likes to sandwich them around peanut butter for a snack that really sticks to the ribs (figure B).

    B. Original in the kitchen—it's the only way for a creative person on the go!
