As the image, right, proves, it's easy to turn old planters into a new pedestal!
Materials:flower pots and saucers
contact cement
gesso
paint
- Make sure your pots and saucers are clean and dry before you begin. Otherwise, glue and paint won't adhere properly.
- Do a dry fit to figure out how your pedestal will go together. Michele Beschen stacked her largest saucer, her second-largest saucer and a flower potall upside downwith another saucer on top (figure A). Figure out what arrangement works best for your materials and the look you want to achieve.
- Glue your pieces together with contact cement (figure B). Make sure all of your pieces are centered with each other.
- Once the glue is completely dry, prime the pedestal
(figure C). Michele Beschen likes to use gesso (available art supply stores). - Once the gesso coat is dry, paint the pedestal. Michele Beschen likes to use different shades of the same color, mixing them slightly on the brush as she goes.
- When the paint is dry, coat the piece with spray lacquer for a high gloss shine.
