    Painted Popcorn Bowls
    Tools:

    large white ceramic bowl
    enamel paint
    paintbrushes
    rubbing alcohol
    pencil
    oven

    Designing the Bowl

    • Design the bowl using family names or words such as snacks and popcorn.

    • Use stencils or draw the design onto the bowl freehand.

    • The Internet is a good resource for fun fonts and patterns.

We made a retro-inspired design, with red vertical stripes and the word popcorn in vintage-style lettering.

    1. Wash and dry the bowl and wipe it down with alcohol.

    2. Use a pencil to mark the letters or design on the bowl lightly (figure A). You can place a piece of tape as a guide to help keep lettering straight.

    3. Paint the bowl with the enamel paint along the pencil lines (figure B) (figure C). Clean any mistakes and rub away the pencil marks with a damp cloth.

    4. After the bowl has air-dried for an hour, place it in a cool oven, set the temperature to 350 degrees and bake for 30 minutes.

    5. Turn the oven off and allow the bowl to cool before taking it out.

Note: Don't paint where you will have direct food contact, and always wash by hand.
